Java & Spring Boot backend help: freelance, contract or full-time
15 years of backend engineering in banking, payments and insurance (Maybank, UOB, AXA, TSYS, Takaful Malaysia, Aleph Labs). I work remotely and can usually start a small engagement within a week.
1. Spring Boot / Java upgrade & modernisation
Stuck on Java 8/11 or Spring Boot 2.x? I'll move you to Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.5 / 4.x. That covers the javax → jakarta switch, dependency conflicts (Jackson, SLF4J/Logback, Hibernate), build pipeline fixes, and a regression checklist so nothing breaks in production.
Good for: teams whose versions are out of support (every Spring Boot 3.x line has now left free open-source support), or who are blocked by security scans.
2. Kafka & event-driven integration
Design or fix producers and consumers: retries, dead-letter topics, idempotent processing, partitioning and ordering, consumer lag. I also review existing setups that lose or duplicate messages.
3. New backend APIs & microservices
REST APIs and microservices with Spring Boot 3 / WebFlux, PostgreSQL or Oracle. They come with tests, Docker images and CI/CD (Jenkins / ArgoCD / OpenShift / AWS). I deliver an MVP backend from spec to deployment.
4. Payment & order systems
Need payments in your app? I build payment and order services in Spring Boot, designed to handle retries and avoid duplicate payments, backed by a background in banking and card payments (Maybank, UOB, TSYS). I've built a payment service as part of my ZaykaHub food ordering platform.
5. Monthly backend support
Need a senior Java developer for a few hours or days a week? I can join your team remotely for bug fixes, new features, code reviews and production support, without you hiring full-time.
6. Production troubleshooting & code review
Slow endpoints, memory leaks, random failures, or a codebase nobody understands any more. I find the root cause, fix it and write down what happened. I've owned L3 production support in a bank, so I'm comfortable with real incident pressure.
7. Senior / Tech Lead roles

How we'd work

- Short written proposal: scope, approach, timeline and a fixed price or hourly/daily rate.
- Delivery in small, reviewable pieces through your Git repo, with regular updates.
- Handover: documentation and a walkthrough so your team owns it.
Engagements can be fixed-price (well-defined tasks), hourly/daily (ongoing support) or a monthly contract. NDAs are fine.
